Remember when we used to dress up in traditional attire at school in conjunction with Hari Kebangsaan?

Some of us would even dress up in cultural attire, different from our own in the spirit of embracing each other's culture.

I remember when I used to dress in my Punjabi friend's lehenga for Hari Kebangsaan, and she would be more than happy to lend it to me, along with helping me put it on the proper way.

It is one of the more wholesome ways for Malaysians to display their togetherness as fellow countrymen.

And that was what TikTok user, @diyana.azim_, experienced on Wednesday, 31 August.

In conjunction with Hari Kebangsaan, Diyana's supervisor asked for her and her colleagues to dress up in traditional clothes to distribute products to the public

In a conversation with SAYS, Diyana said that they wanted someone to wear traditional Indian attire, but since there were no colleagues who were Indian, Diyana offered to wear a saree that day.

She admitted that it was her first time wearing the traditional Indian attire and that she had to watch YouTube tutorials on how to drape a saree.

Diyana, who is Malay, mentioned that she is of Indian descent on her father's side.

When she wore the traditional attire on Hari Kebangsaan, Diyana was met with three sweet Indian ladies who offered to adjust her saree for her

While she was in front of Masjid Jamek LRT station, three Indian ladies approached her, complimenting Diyana on how pretty she looked in her saree.

However, Diyana was apparently told by the ladies that the pallu pleating, the decorated end of the saree that usually hangs on the left shoulder, was incorrectly done and they offered their help to fix it.

In the TikTok video, one of the ladies can be seen pinning Diyana's saree into the right place whilst the other ladies are helping her with the process.

The heartwarming encounter resulted in Diyana taking photos with the three kind ladies

Diyana could only describe the experience as heartwarming and felt like she was family to the ladies

Diyana said that this experience was especially memorable because it happened on a special day such as Hari Kebangsaan.

"To be honest, they treated me really sweetly. I can see the pride in their faces when they see a Malay-hijabi girl wearing a saree," said Diyana.

This experience made her realise that Malaysians still respect each other's culture and that everyone is cherished like family in this country.

Netizens were touched by the wholesome video and expressed how proud they were to see such togetherness amongst the races

In a follow-up video, Diyana displayed the ladies' handiwork, showing a before and after shot of her saree

Diyana captioned her video, saying, "The difference is apparent."
